Meet Amy Stephen

I’m a married mom of two awesome young men—one a proud UW Husky alum and the other a current University of Utah Ute. Our third “kid,” Patch (a lovable German Shorthair Pointer), still lives at home. He barely passed Kindergarten, but we love him anyway.
I hold a Biology degree from Loyola Marymount University (Go Lions!) and bring over 20 years of experience teaching middle school and high school science, supporting students academically, and partnering with families. For the past seven years, I’ve worked as an independent academic coach, supporting students 1:1 outside the classroom. In the last two years, I also taught high school biology part‑time --wearing both hats has given me a unique perspective on how students learn and what they need to succeed.
Why I Do This Work
After spending time in the classroom, I saw the same pattern over and over: Most students don’t struggle because they’re incapable—they struggle because school requires organization, planning, and follow‑through that many teens and young adults haven’t been taught.
Executive function skills aren’t optional anymore. They’re essential.
I became an academic coach because I wanted to support students in the ways schools often can’t—helping them build the systems, habits, and confidence they need to manage school and life more independently.
My Approach
I work with high school and college students across the U.S., helping them:
Get organized and stay organized
Manage time and plan ahead
Break down assignments and avoid overwhelm
Build consistent academic habits
Strengthen confidence and self‑advocacy
Reduce stress—for both students and parents
My coaching is warm, structured, and practical. I meet students exactly where they are and help them move forward with clarity and support.
What I Love About This Work
I love that I can work virtually with students anywhere. I love seeing a student who once felt overwhelmed start to feel capable. And I love supporting learners of all abilities as they build the skills they need to thrive in school, in college, and beyond.
